Darnell A. Drewery (Anthony Drew) has over 20 years of experience working as a Community Specialist, Crime Prevention Education Specialist, an Advocate for individuals impacted by trauma triggered by violence and crime, and as an Intensive Case Manager working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

His extensive experience has enabled him to implement crime prevention information sessions with companies, grass-roots and non-profit organizations locally and nationally as well as prepare and disseminate critical crime prevention information via electronic and print media. Darnell conducts workshops on conflict resolution, trauma response, anger management and crisis intervention at the Center for Victims where he is a Community Intervention Specialist.

Not only is he committed to developing healthy communities; he has a passion for youth and young adults. During his professional career, he has spent and continues to impact the lives of young people.

In fact, it was during his early years of working in Pittsburgh communities and local schools when Darnell realized that young adults who were engaged in negative activity received the most attention and resources while young people who were on the right track were expected to achieve and be positive examples to others without continuous encouragement, attention or direction to resources that would assist their personal development. It was this realization that The Shyne Awards was born, and now this annual event has become an anticipated awards ceremony that celebrates the positive achievements of young adults in the region.

In addition to being very active in the community, he’s also committed to serving in ministry. Serving as an Associate Minister at Mount Ararat Baptist Church Darnell works with the church’s New Disciples Ministry and serves as a facilitator for a bible study group designed for young men.

For over 20 years, he is happily married to his wife Orlana Darkins Drewery.
